Innovative Programs in Education
Career Strategies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM)
Stillwater Area Public Schools are pleased to announce the release of the Innovative Programs in Education package containing all items necessary to replicate the successful Robotics Academy and Precision Manufacturing Career Exploration program. Stillwater Area Public Schools Community Education provided leadership and collaborated with professionals from post-secondary education, business and workforce/economic development to implement these programs.
Over the past two years Stillwater has engaged over 100 students in the summer intensive Robotics Academies. These Academies have acted as a catalyst in the development of semester courses in robotics now being taught to over 200 students at the secondary level in the district.
Through these efforts students are being prepared for potential careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Over 20 teachers are now applying the knowledge and skills gained through industry visits and robotics training in their classrooms daily.
The Robotics Academy and the Precision Manufacturing Career Exploration program have been honored with the 2006 Minnesota Workforce Council Association (MWCA) Best Practices Award for Excellence and Innovation in Workforce Development Delivery. These programs have gained state and national exposure at the MN Development Conference - "Accelerating Innovation and Entrepreneurship" held in St. Paul and at the 2007 National Association of Workforce Boards Forum in Washington, D.C.
